Palm Stuff
I made this page of my favorite Palm apps because I find that reviews and collections from real people tend to be the most useful...

Gear
Sony Clie SJ30
This is my current model, with a Lexar 128 meg Memory Stick. The Hi-Res is awesome.
I used a Palm IIIXE for about three years before my Clie, and Kim has a Palm Zire (the original one) she got just to see if she'd like it. She does, so she'll probably get a Clie SJ22 real soon.
Click a Tab link to go to that screenshot and a list of the apps in it. Click links of the apps to go to do a Google search for those them. Eventually I might put the links directly to the program, but I want to get this page up.
Anyway, they shouldn't be too hard to find. All of the apps that do not have a * are either free or came with my Clie.
The sites I most used are FreewarePalm, Palm Open Source, then PalmGear and from others' recommendations in the ClieSource forums.
If I'm missing some app you've found, please
!
Zlauncher
The Zlaucher app rocks. I use the application category tabs on it, the built in File Manager, and use the Memory Stick functions. You can click and hold an icon and get a popup menu of commands. Very cool. The apps with a Windows shortcut icon are on my memory stick. This page is set up to show the various screens of each category/tab I have set up (at least on July 4, 2003).
Tabs
Also on my Z-launcher bottom bar are
Brightness, HotSync, File Manager, Beam, and
Preferences. The empty tab is selected in the screen shot above.

This tab is just so I can see and show Jack and Helen without opening up a photo program. :-)

- Aldon's Crossing* - (not currently installed) my all time favorite Palm game. I had it on my old IIIXE and it inspired me to get a color one! It's your typical RPG, but very nicely done.
- BridgeOC - Maybe I'll learn to play bridge someday
- Cribbage - Rocks. This is my default game. Currently I've won about 38% of the games.
- Empire - Control the medieval world in a text based turn strategy game.
- Hardball - Breakout clone. Great mind-numbing game I like to play in lobbies and airports.
- Hearts - I first shot the moon on my old IIIXE in the middle of those childbirthing videos in a birthing class that Kim and I were in when she was pregnant with Jack! How's that for a PowerUser?
- Irogue - Text/graphic adventure game. Old-school.
- Lemmings - Played this on my old Mac LCII back in the day (uninstalled 07-06-2003 since only the first level pack is free)
- Minehunt - On the Palm I finally figured out how to play this game
- Pocketchess - I pwn! this game on the easy level
- SFcave - highly addictive
- Sigma - Excellent game. Takes a while to figure out, but very addictive once you do. 58 is my current high score.
- Vexed - It doesn't get any better than this. I'm in the harder levels now, so it takes a good deal of insomnia to play it...
"Text" is what I use to describe apps that are primarily reading or writing apps.
- BibleReader - Free from Olive Tree. I'm using the KJV and an old (free) commentary (Update: I'm using their beta now and it's really cool; small fonts, up to three frames, and more)
- Documents to Go - Powerful, but I don't really use my Palm to view/edit MS Office docuemnts.
- PalmReader* - This app rocks. I have my screen reversed (white on black) to read books at night when I'm going to sleep. About to finish all the Sherlock Holmes collection from Memoware
- Plucker - Excellent prog to download web sites and view them on your Palm. I get the weather (from the NWS of course) in text only mode and also my Amazon.com wish list so when I'm at Barnes and Noble I know what to look for
- PsMemo - Replacement for MemoPad. Supports small fonts in the main list view, that's why I use it. Anyone know of a Memo Pad replacement with small fonts for the memos and syncs up with Outlook?
- SheetToGo - See Documents to Go
- SheetView - See Documents to Go
- WordView - See Documents to Go
This is what you might call my day to day or work tab.
- Agendus* - A great tool to integrate ToDo, Calendar, and Contacts. Supports small fonts and icons, so that's why I bought it. The week view is my favorite.
- BigClock - Everyone else has it, so must I
- HandyShopper - Kim makes a list and then beams it to me in the store and Jack and I set off to get stuff. Excellent free app.
- Happy Days - Add a birthday or anniversary column to your Contacts, and this will list them for you
- Mapopolis* - I used the old free one back in the day, but now it's not free. Still a great map tool. I bought the Houston set and have already used it to find an address/directions.
These are apps I use when I'm connected to the Internet on my Nokia 6200. I put Prefs here also to quickly manage my IR connection
- Blazer* - The browser I like. Weird URL entry, but beats the others IMO, and I've tried them all I think... Note: You can't save web pages to Memo Pad with this one; Xiino (below) can though, but I don't like it's interface as much
- Lftp - For ftp-ing files. Command line only, but does the job.
- Mergic Ping - To see if I'm still connected
- netClock - Sync my Palm's time
- PHTML* - HTML editor for the Palm. Haven't had to use it in a crisis, but it's there if I need it.
- Prefs - Really in the wrong category, but I keep it here to manage my IR connection quickly without changing to a different tab.
- TG ssh - A free ssh client. Works well, but could use some small font support.
- VFSFTP+ - I want this gui FTP app to work, but changing directories is tricky. It seems it's always recording a tap and sending me to another dir that I don't want. If it had a progress indicator to let you know it was busy it would rock.
- Xiino - Browser I used before Blazer. Pretty good, but not worth paying for IMO.
These apps are ones I rarely use and/or they aren't categorizeable. I put all my Sony MS apps here and the Palm ones I have replacements for as well. I'll explain the non-standard ones.
- Dis. Buttons - This app makes your buttons turn your Palm off if you hit them accidentally. I knew that my Palm was coming on when one day I took it out of my pocket and had a new high score in Hardball!
- powerOne - The calc that doesn't work now since I set my system colors
- SkyChart - What planets and stars are now visible where you are? This will tell you...very cool.
A collection of tools/settings/tweaks apps
- AsciiChart - What is &%7E; ? This will tell you... ~
- chmod - Helps you figure out what 644, 755, *nix file permissions, etc.
- Colorize - I made my system color a light grey with this, and my system text a dark blue
- CompDB - Tool for keeping track of computers and their settings
- Converter - How many stones do you weigh? How long is a fortnight?
- DB - palmDB is an open source database app that can read Mobile DB databases.
- dbIcon+ - lets you edit icons for things like HandyShopper and Agendus
- HackFinder - finds any hacks you have on your palm
- Keyring - Encrypt notes, passowords, etc.
- Word Comp* - Still demo-ing this, but when you Grafitti something like he it pops up a box with here, hear, etc and you can tap the word to complete it. I added http://www. so when I write ht I can fill all that in
- Xmaster - used to run the Screen Cap Hack* program
- Zlauncher* - My skin/launcher app that is pictured in all these screen shots
No need for a pic of all the files/apps
No need for a pic of this... just files and folders
All of my photo programs. It's over on the right so I can quickly bring up PGpocket and show off Jack and Helen!
- CLIE Paint - A paint progam
- gMovie - Movie prog
- Mirror - lets use use the Palm screen as a mirror
- PG Pocket - Lets you view photos.
- Photostand - A "screensaver" app that plays your pics. I don't have base for my Clie so I don't use it
